CMSgt. Matthew S. Demers, of Los Lunas, recently retired as a chief master sergeant after 23 years in the New Mexico Air National Guard.

He was the chief of information protection for the 150th Special Operations Wing, NMANG, at Kirtland Air Force Base in Albuquerque.  

He was responsible for the management of all aspects of information security throughout the wing. He was also a drill status guardsman for headquarters, NMANG, where he served as the superintendent, providing servant leadership and mentorship to 68 personnel.  

Demers was a member of NMANG since February 2001, and was selected to become a full-time technician in January 2007.  

He’s received major award and decorations, including the Air Force Meritorious Service Medal, Air Force Commendation Medal, Air Force Achievement Medal and the Air Force Meritorious Unit Award among others. 

Demers graduated from high school in 1999 from La Mesa Christian Academy in Rio Communities.
