Duke City Raceway will hold the first half of its New Mexico Holiday Championships this weekend. The event is a special show for Dirt Modified cars, which will run both Saturday and Sunday. The series concludes during the Labor Day weekend.

In addition to the Modifieds, the Hobby Stock division will race on Saturday night. On Sunday, the ever-popular demolition derby will be held.

Racing begins at 6:30 p.m. each day at the track located on Murray Road off Broadway in Albuquerque’s South Valley.

Racing at Duke City Raceway has a special interest to race fans in Valencia County as nearly 40 drivers from the county participate. The Modified division is currently led by Richard Johnson of Los Lunas. Bobby Bachechi, also of Los Lunas, is third in the season point standings.

The Hobby Stock class is led by Phil York. Ronnie Bell is second and Ron Leatham Jr. is third. All are from Los Lunas.

Admission for this weekend’s races are $10.00 for adults and $5.00 for children 6 to 12. Children under 5 are free.
