It was a good weekend for Valencia County high school volleyball and cross country teams.
Volleyball
Los Lunas Tigers finished third in the gold bracket at the APS Metro Volleyball Tournament. The Tigers (6-2) lost to La Cueva in the semifinals, but defeated Cleveland for a third time this season to take third place.
Both Belen and Valencia took part in the Tournament of Champions in Santa Fe. Valencia posted a 2-1 record to finish fifth in the gold bracket. Belen went 1-2 in the Eagles’ bracket.
Cross Country
Los Lunas freshman Isaac Gonzales led a sweep of the top three places, as the Tigers captured the boys’ team title at the Moriarty Invitational.
Valencia did not have a full team, but Victor Ramirez came in fifth.
For Belen, Kyle Glodt finished eighth with the Eagles sixth in the team competition.
For the girls, Belen’s Lisette Sanchez was the individual champion, helping the Eagles to second place behind McCurdy.
LLHS was fifth, led by Sol Romero in 13th place.
