Belen, Los Lunas and Valencia swimming squads competed in Belen’s Last Chance Invite, providing an opportunity for prep swimmers to qualify for the state meet.

On the girls’ side, Belen finished in second place, while Valencia and Los Lunas finished fourth and sixth, respectively.

Belen’s 50-yard medley relay team of Maya Montaño, Jonelle Tujillo, Nazarae Layton and Haven Casillas qualified placed first and qualified for the state meet.

The relay team also placed first and qualified for 50-yard freestyle relay at the state meet.

Casillas, who qualified for the state meet in the 100-yard freestyle at the Griffin Invite in January, also qualified for the 50-yard freestyle after placing first with a time of 26.185.

Casillas is the first individual Belen swimmer to qualify for the state meet.

Los Lunas’ Alessandra Sanchez placed first in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:08.59.

Valencia’s Aryn Simmons placed first in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:19.92.

On the boys’ side, Belen placed third, while Los Lunas came in at fourth and Valencia finished ninth.

Los Lunas’ 100-yard freestyle relay team of Samuel Casaus, Butch Bottini, Chase Bernal and Joshua Jones placed first.

Samuel Casaus finished first in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 52.78.

Belen’s Luke Sanchez finished first in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:03.45.

The District Meet will be held on Friday and Saturday at Albuquerque Academy.

The State Meet will be held on Feb. 22-23 at Albuquerque Academy.
