Karen Howell passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 18, 2022. She was 91.
Karen was preceded in death by her husband, Jackie L. Howell; her parents, Frank and Wladyslawa (Bocci) Adamski; and her seven siblings, Chester, Joseph, Edward, Irene, Stella, Pat and Ann.
She is survived by two nieces, Linda and Diane.
Karen was born and raised in Union City, Conn. She attended Catholic school all her young life and then became a nun and resided with the Bernadine Franciscan Sisters School, also in Connecticut.
She attended college during her time in the convent and had degrees in nursing, dental hygiene and library science. Karen left the convent in the 1960s and moved to Las Vegas, Nev., where she immediately started teaching in a local school.
She met and married Jackie L. Howell in 1971. They later retired and moved to New Mexico. They were married for 33 years.
Karen was a kind and loving person to all she knew, and she leaves behind friends she made over the years and will be fondly remembered and missed by them. Her three girlfriends from Las Vegas, who taught school with her will remember her forever.
Karen loved to cook and entertain. She loved to play golf and belonged to a few golf clubs throughout her life.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 31, at Romero Funeral Home Chapel, 609 N. Main St., Belen. A visitation is at 10:30 a.m., with the service to follow at 11 a.m.
