Los Lunas High School AJROTC had yet another busy weekend with their Color Guard, Marksmanship and Physical Training teams competing against 23 other JROTC programs at a Skills Meet on Feb. 24.

The competition, hosted by Cibola High School MCJROTC, resulted in the LLHS Mighty Tiger Battalion’s Color Guard taking home four trophies. The team won two first-place trophies for Outstanding Commander – Color Guard Inspection and Outstanding Commander – Color Guard Regulation, and two second-place trophies for overall Color Guard Regulation and overall Color Guard Inspection.

Demonstrating teamwork, discipline and precision, the AJROTC cadets proved their capabilities. Last October, the Color Guard took second place overall at the Four Corners Skills Meet and were invited and participated at the Raider Nationals in Fort Knox, Ky, last November.

Setting higher goals and exceeding standards has led the LLHS AJROTC to earn other prestigious awards as well.

Every three years, each JROTC program goes through an inspection of a JROTC Unit’s Instruction and Performance by the Junior ROTC Program of Accreditation. Last year, LLHS AJROTC received the Honor Unit with Distinction with a Gold Star. This honor is only awarded to the top 5 percent in the nation and is evidence the instructors, CPT Hedlund and CSM Aragon are completing their mission and living up to the goals set forth for them by the U.S. Army.
