If you need a break from upcoming holiday shopping, there will be an alternative in Valencia County.

Los Lunas High School will host the Red vs. Green Cross Country All-Star competition Nov. 25, the Saturday after Thanksgiving. This is the second year for the Red vs. Green event, sponsored by the New Mexico High School Coaches Association.

The top New Mexico high school seniors are invited to go head to head in races for boys and girls. There will also be runs featuring the best underclassmen, eighth grade through 11th grades, preceding the main events.

Longtime Tigers coach Larry Padilla was asked to be meet director.

“A lot of people hate hosting meets just because there is a lot of work,” Padilla said. “I actually kind of find it fun. Normally, we put on a good meet and have had a good reputation.”

The course will start and end at the football field, traversing through the LLHS campus along the way. The first race gets underway at 11:30 a.m. There is an admission charge with concessions available.
