Communities throughout Valencia County are getting ready for the Fourth of July.

Families are invited to join the celebration and enjoy food, fun and entertainment this Independence Day.

Take a look at the following schedule of Fourth of July activities:

Belen begins the celebration on Saturday, June 29, with the Hub City Musicfest, which will include a homemade apple pie contest at 4 p.m. Belen Goju Ryu performs at 4:30 p.m., free hamburgers will be offered at 5 p.m. Applause School of Dance performs at 6 p.m. before a 6:30 puppet show.

Musical entertainment begins at 7 p.m with the variety-band Crossroads. Look for Lori’s Boardwalk Gymnastics at 7:45 p.m. Crossroads takes over again from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Fireworks will light up the night sky at approximately 9:15 p.m. Crossroads plays again until 11 p.m. Call the City of Belen or the Belen Chamber of Commerce for more information.

Los Lunas’ Fourth of July Parade kicks off at 9 a.m. Thursday. It will begin at the Valencia Y, across from Smith’s, and travel along Main Street to City Hall.

Streets crossing Main Street will be closed during the parade. It will affect Appaloosa, NM 47, Lujan, Nancy, NM 263, Blue Bonnett, Mt. Laurel, Edeal, Carson, Los Lentes, Don Diego, Luna, NM 314, Sandoval, Calle de las Familias, Sichler and Don Pasqual.

Activities start at noon at Daniel Fernandez Park on NM 314. Get ready for food, entertainment and fireworks at dusk.

There’s something for everyone all day long. Sunnie the Clown will perform for kids inside the youth center at 3:30 p.m., and it’s free.

Other activities include:

  • Noon: Love and Money Junkies.
  • 1:30 p.m.: Vincent Black Shadows.
  • 3 p.m.: Los Jesters Band.
  • 4:30 p.m.: Las Florecitas Con Estyle.
  • 5:30 p.m.: The Remedy.

Need more excitement — the horseshoe tournament goes throughout the day.

The Los Lunas Men’s Softball League 2002 All-Star Game kicks off at 5 p.m. with a home-run derby. Come see “Valencia County’s Best Players” play at 6 p.m.

The Meadowlake Com-munity Association is hosting a Fourth of July event from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Meadowlake Community Center.

They are asking non-profit organizations in the area that would like to have a booth to please call and sign up.
