Christopher Paul Aragon

1973-2019

Christopher Paul Aragon, age 45, a resident of Tomé, passed away on Thursday, June 20, 2019.

Within the last year, he was inducted as a member of the Elks Lodge in Roswell, N.M. Christopher was the proud founder of Paca-Dude Ranch. He had a big heart, was caring, loving and such a jokester. He could light up anyone or any situation.

Some of Christopher’s endearing habits were he always gave more than he had, playing “Pata Face” and singing Polar tunes. Christopher loved to go camping, spending time with family, boating and traveling.

He was a child of God, and his passions were his family, cooking, sitting on the porch with a cold beer, all music, AJ’s memorial 5K in Clovis, Lil Alex’s Concession Stand, taking road trips and photography. In 1991, Christopher received the scholastic art award for his photography. He was mama and dad’s baby boy and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Christopher was preceded in death by his grandparents, Abel and Ramoncita Aragon, and Paul and Juanita Chavez.

He is survived by his husband, David Charles Glisch-Aragon; parents, Richard and Lucille Aragon; sister, Jennifer Aragon; mother-in-law, Nancy Glisch, of Albuquerque; uncles and aunts, Danny and Margaret Gabaldon, of Laughlin, Nev., Lawrence Chavez, Cuco and Jeanette Urtiaga, of Belen, Al and Genevieve Zapeda, Jack and Joann Luttinen, of Las Vegas, Nev., Adela Aragon, Charles and Janette Brunt, Robin Brunt and Kelly Brunt, of Albuquerque; and many loving cousins and friends.

All services will be held at Noblin Funeral Service Belen Chapel on Saturday, June 29. A public visitation will begin at 12 p.m., with a celebration of life at 1 p.m. A reception will follow at the Elks Lodge #No. 2499, 19513 N.M. 314 in Belen.

Jaques Beaufort Bluett

1980-2019

Jaques Beaufort Bluett grew up digging ditches and watching baseball on a small TV and finished with a master’s degree in physics, a thousand tales of adventure, and great seats.

He was found dead unexpectedly Wednesday, June 5, 2019, in his apartment in La Jolla, Calif. He was 38.

Jaques was brilliant, funny and kind, a sweet-natured wanderer with an outsized personality. He had a sly sense of humor and a drive to explore the novel and the obscure. He had a firm handshake and dressed to impress, with a time-capsule wardrobe of polyester suits, cowboy hats and cravats. He was a hard worker who excelled in his education and his career as a medical dosimetrist, helping hospital oncology teams treat cancer with radiation.

Jaques was born June 16, 1980, and raised on a 50-acre farm in Belen. In his daily chores, he moved mountains of dirt, building his regard for his Western home and its untamed, ornery spirit. With his friends and loved ones, he often spoke of home, painting Albuquerque and its environs with a poet’s eye for detail and a heady mix of bafflement and pride.

He is survived by his wife, Claire, of Albuquerque; father, Marc Bluett, of Belen; mother, Jean Bluett, of Alder, Mont.; sister Cassandra Whiteside (Bo), of Kodiak, Alaska; and brother, Jeffrey Bluett (Ariel), of Bozeman, Mont.

Theresa (Padilla) Jaramillo

Died 2019

Theresa (Padilla) Jaramillo, 81, devoted wife and beloved mother, passed away Tuesday, June 18, 2019.

She was an active member of Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church for many years, and after moving to Albuquerque, became a member of Our Lady of the Annunciation Church.

Theresa was born and raised in Belen, and there she met the love of her life, Alfonso Jaramillo. Together they raised eight children and ran Al’s Mini Marts, which they established in 1973.

Theresa enjoyed traveling around the world with Alfonso. Together, they shared many wonderful adventures and visited multiple countries.

Theresa was preceded in death by her husband, Alfonso Jaramillo, in 2006; her daughter, Luana Jaramillo in 1997; her mother, Barbarita Sanchez; and her brothers, Alfonso and David Padilla.

She is survived by seven children, Melinda Baca, Philip Jaramillo and wife, Charlotte, Paul Jaramillo and wife, Annabel, Elaine Watson and husband, Darren, Tina Jojola and husband, Dave, Mark Jaramillo and wife, Kathleen and Jean Whitten and husband, Spencer. She is also survived by 17 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; and her sister, Anita Martinez.

A Rosary will be recited at 8 a.m., Thursday, June 27, with Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 8:30 a.m., at Our Lady of the Annunciation Parish, 2621 Vermont NE., Albuquerque. Interment will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery.

Richard Klapper

1931-2019

Richard Klapper, age 88, a resident of Belen, passed away on, Monday, June 17, 2019.

He was born in Bronx, N.Y., in 1931. Richard first met his wife of 62 years when he was 9 years old. They were married in 1954. In 1976, they moved to New Mexico from Connecticut with their children.

He later became a real estate broker in Belen and then on to become a sales man at Auge’s. Dick had a never-ending sense of humor and always had a joke for everything. He will be greatly missed by family and friends.

Richard is preceded in death by his loving wife, Evelyn; daughter, Sue; his mother and father and brother.

He is survived by his daughters, Michele and Randy; five grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

Col. Gerald A. Lovett

Died 2019

Col. Gerald A. Lovett, U.S. Army, retired, age 89, passed on Monday, June 17, 2019, after a brief illness.

Gerald “Jerry” was raised in Belen, the grandson of Paul B. Dalies and son of Austin and Dorothy Lovett. His family started a mercantile business in the early 1900s, and in later years it became Becker and Dalies.

He attended Belen High School, then transferred to NMMI in Roswell, where he then graduated from high school and junior college. Jerry then transferred to UNM and received a bachelor’s degree in business.

He joined the United States Army and served in a Green Beret unit. After the Korean War, he transferred to the Army Reserves and retired in 1981.

Jerry owned and operated Lovett Insurance, was involved in the Rotary Club, Greater Belen Chamber of Commerce, Ducks Unlimited, Alumni Board at UNM, and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Belen.

Jerry was an avid hunter and fisherman, and enjoyed traveling with his wife, Dolores, especially ocean cruises.

He is survived by his wife of 19 years, Dolores “Dee” Lovett; daughter, Deborah Schneider and husband, Steve; son, Mark Lovett; grandchildren, Collin Schneider and wife, Lacie; Kyle Schneider and wife, Michelle, and Crystal Church and husband, John; great-grandchildren, Austin, Jackson and John; brother, Bruce Lovett and wife, Marilynn; and sister, Laura Bruening and husband, Jim; along with many nieces, nephews family and friends.

A memorial service will be held at 11:15 a.m., Monday, July 8, at Santa Fe National Cemetery.

Jerry C. Martinez

1957-2019

Jerry C. Martinez, a resident of Belen, passed away on Saturday, June 22, 2019, after a short hospitalization.

Jerry was a talented jack-of-all-trades. Throughout his working years, he did jobs such as a mental health assistant, a maintenance man at UNM, where he retired. He loved to plant his garden and tend to his trees and flowers.

Jerry loved to visit his parents in the Jemez Mountains and often enjoyed camping and fishing there. Many times through the years, Jerry could be found watching all the hummingbirds coming to the feeders that he prepared daily.

Jerry especially loved to watch and support his sons and grandsons participate in sports. He could be found at all the baseball games and track meets, enjoying every minute. Jerry loved animals, being outside in the fresh air, grilling, western movies and his family. His family meant everything to him and he cherished everyday he had with them.

Jerry was preceded in death by his infant son, James; his infant grandson, Devin; and his father, Raymundo Martinez.

Jerry is survived by his beloved wife, Bobbie Sue Martinez; his sons, Martin, Jerome and wife, Savannah, and Patrick; his grandsons, Isaac, James, Andrew and Anthony; granddaughter, Rebecca; and by many friends and family.

All services will be held at Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church. A viewing will begin at 9:30 a.m., Monday, July 1, and Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Burial will be private.

Theresa Lorraine Sanchez

1952-2019

Theresa Lorraine Sanchez, a resident of Tomé, went to heaven to be in the loving arms of God on Sunday, June 23, 2019.

She grew up in Los Lunas. Theresa was retired from public service with the Valencia County Clerk’s Office. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother and cherished her family.

Her passion was making custom hand-made jewelry. She loved roses and had a gorgeous display of rose bushes planted around her home. Theresa was a very generous person and loved people. She enjoyed spending time with her husband, children, grandchildren extended family and friends. Theresa loved life, prayed often and had an enormous love for the Lord.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Frank G. Ortiz and Rita Cordova Ortiz.

Theresa is survived by her husband, Charly Sanchez; her children, Mario Sanchez and his wife, Angel, Craig Sanchez and his wife, Mellisa, April Gurule, Charles Sanchez and his wife, Christine; her grandchildren, Bryan Sanchez, Ariana Caldwell, Zachary Sanchez, Dillon Wood, Ethan Gurule, Sean Scaggs, Christopher Sanchez, Zander Sanchez, Cipriana Sanchez, Shania Sanchez, Eban Sanchez, Mario Sanchez and Aiden Sanchez; her siblings, David Ortiz and wife, Virginia, Andres Ortiz and his wife, Gabriele, Stephen Ortiz, Frank Ortiz and wife, Rondi.

Services will take place on Friday, June 28, at San Clemente Catholic Church in Los Lunas. The viewing will begin at 9 a.m., a Rosary will be recited at 9:30 a.m., and the Funeral Mass will follow at 10 a.m. Interment will take place at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, July 2, at the Santa Fe National Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Bryan Sanchez, Zachary Sanchez, Ariana Caldwell, Ethan Gurule, Christopher Sanchez and Zander Sanchez.

Peter Francis Sandoval

1941-2019

Peter Francis Sandoval, the seventh son of the seventh son, lived a rich life of 77 years. His loud stories made both family and strangers laugh. He was a strong family man who brightened every room.

He is preceded in death by his daughter, Janet Madeline Atler; his mother, Lillian Sandoval; his father, Abelicio Sandoval; and his brothers, Charles “Buddy” Sandoval, Rudy Sandoval, Joe Sandoval, Kenny Sandoval and Baby Joe Sandoval; and his sisters, Lillian Sandoval and Mary Elrodt.

He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Joanna Sandoval; his three sons, Joseph Sandoval and his wife, Maze, Jeffery Sandoval and James Sandoval and his wife, Barbara Sandoval; his son-in-law, Albert Atler; and his sisters, Anna Shinville and Betty Campbell; and his brother, John Sandoval. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, Amanda Sandoval, Joseph Sandoval and his wife, Rica Sandoval, Christina Atler and her partner, Enrique Sotelo, Cynthia Atler and her partner, Chet Jordan, Lillian Sandoval, Victoria Sandoval and Nicholas Sandoval; as well as his four great-grandchildren, David Sandoval, Rylan Sandoval and Adriana Sandoval, and one more on the way.

All services were held at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Tomé on Wednesday, June 26.

In lieu of flowers, the family would like monetary donations to be made to either the New Mexico Cancer Society or to the Epilepsy Foundation.

Garry Tolbert

1945-2019

Garry Tolbert, 74, of Peralta, NM, passed away Friday, June 21, 2019.

Garry was born on January 28, 1945, in Albuquerque, to Cecil and Jean Tolbert. He graduated from Valley High School and attended New Mexico State University.

He married Sharon in 1964 and they were married for more than 54 years. He worked as a pipe fitter and welder, and retired in 2007 from the Local 412 Union. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, rodeos and spending time with family and friends. Garry was a very loving husband, father, son and brother.

He is survived by his wife, Sharon Tolbert, of Peralta; two daughters, Renee Tolbert, of Albuquerque, and Robbie Harter and husband, Dan Harter, of Amarillo, Texas; one son, Lance Tolbert and wife, Donna Tolbert, of Belen; five granddaughters, Kayla King, of Tularosa, Bryonna Klumker, of Belen, Jessica Andrews, of Peralta, Karlie and Katie Harter, of Amarillo; and one grandson, Cody Harter, of Amarillo; one niece, Jan Stearns Rael, of Atlanta, Ga.; and one nephew, Mike Stearns, of Amarillo.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Cecil and Jean Tolbert; and his sister, Gayle Stearns.

The family suggests in lieu of flowers, donations in his memory be made to Horsin’ Around Therapeautic Riding Center.

A memorial service and celebration of life will be held at 7 p.m., Friday, July 12, at the Belen Sheriff’s Posse.

Christopher Trujillo

1991-2019

Christopher Trujillo, age 27, a resident of Belen, passed away on June 19, 2019.

He is survived by his father, John Trujillo Jr.; and mother, Rhonda Trujillo; Cynthia Reed; sister, Jessica Trujillo; grandparents, John Trujillo Sr. and Florie; Roz Birdger and many friends and family members.

Services will take place at 11 a.m., Saturday, June 29, at Holy Ghost On Fire Church, 156 Caldwell, Belen (in the parking lot of old Furr’s Plaza). Reception will follow.

Horacio “Horace” Urtiaga

Horacio “Horace” Urtiaga, age 86, a resident of Belen, passed away on June 20, 2019.

He was a member of Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church.

Horacio was preceded in death by his parents, Andres and Sinforosa Urtiaga; granddaughter, Dominica Urtiaga, and many siblings, relatives and friends.

He is survived by his loving wife, Prescilla Urtiaga; son, Andrew (Kathy) Urtiaga; two grandsons, Andres (Dez) and Marcos (Kim) Urtiaga. He was known as GGPA to great-grandchildren, Eve, Sarai, Alonzo, Uriah and Hudson; sister, Lena (Florenio) Peralta; brother-in-law, Frank Chavez and many family and friends.
