Tarcila Griego

Tarcila Griego, age 92, a resident of Belen, passed away on May 11, 2023, surrounded by her loving family.

The family will have a private memorial as per Tarcila’s wishes.

She is survived by her children, Kenny Griego (Sandra), Danny Griego (Mary), Diane Nakos (Jim), Michael Griego (Roberta), Judith Carrillo (David Alvarez) and Patricia Trujillo (Jonathan); brother, Joe Raymond Tafoya; sister, Blondina Peralta; son-in-law, Robert Sanchez; daughter-in-law, Rosalie Griego; grandchildren, great-grandchildren, numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and special neighbors.

Tarcila is preceded in death by her loving husband, Deaudin “Lin” Griego; children, Loretta Joanne Sanchez and Philip Griego; parents, Celestino and Rafelita Tafoya; brothers, David, John and Sylvestre Tafoya; sister, Frances Cordova; and son-in-law, Phillip Carrillo.

She was a beautiful person inside and out. Tarcila was an avid reader and a gifted artist. She was spiritual, reading her prayers daily. Tarcila was a movie buff and great cook. She loved to dance; she and Lin were well known in Belen for their ability to “cut a rug.”

Tarcila’s pride and joy were her family. She skillfully raised eight children in a three-bedroom home. Tarcila had a boundless supply of unconditional love and kindness for all, but especially for her children, their spouses and grandchildren.

Even in the grip of dementia, her giving spirit was undiminished. She could not stop offering to “cook you something” or “get you coffee” or “make you more comfortable.” A bright, beautiful light has extinguished in the Griego family, but perhaps there is some real fine dancing in Heaven.

Thank you all for your condolences and prayers. Special thanks to Kathy McDonald and the caregivers at Casa Ana Maria. In lieu of flowers, be nice to someone today.
