Gene Mutchie passed away on May 6, 2023. He lost his heroic battle with cancer and has gone to be with the Lord.

On Oct. 18, 1939, in Alliance, Neb., Gene was born to John Felix Gale Mutchie and Anna Elizabeth Briener. After the death of his parents, his aunt and uncle, William P. Roberts, and Orma Mutchie Roberts, assumed the role as his parents.

At the age of 14, Gene moved to Albuquerque. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served for a short time. After the Navy, Gene worked at the Sandia National Laboratories. He retired from his job after 28 years of service as a specialist in the machinist department.

He met the love of his life, Dorothy Pritchard, shortly after beginning his career at the Sandia National Laboratories. They were married and remained so for 42 years, as she was by his side in his final moments. They shared his love of western dancing, casino hopping, and taking care of their property and landscaping.

He was a fun-loving friend, uncle and brother-in-law to many.

Gene is proceeded in death by his brothers, Bill Roberts and Ronald Roberts; brothers-in-law, Ernest, James and Adron Pritchard; and sister-in-law, Virginia and Lilly Pritchard.

He is survived by his sister, Fairy Wilkins and her husband, Ervin, in-laws; Bill and Sarah Pritchard, Evelyn and Lyle Van Houten, Jesse and Linda Pritchard, John C. Pritchard, David and Connie, and Gregory and Karen Pritchard. He also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews, as well as great and great-great nephews and nieces.

Ambercare of Belen was amazing during the time they spent with Gene and Dorothy, and they are much appreciated. Donations to the American Cancer Society, in lieu of flowers, would be appreciated.

A service was held at Daniels Funeral, 7601 Wyoming Blvd. NE, Albuquerque, Tuesday, May 16, followed by the burial at Sandia Memory Gardens in Albuquerque.
