January 2023: Brick by brick, the building at the corner of Main Street and Reinken Avenue in Belen came down on Thursday, Jan. 5. The building was once occupied by Gil’s Bakery, a popular bakery and restaurant. 

February 2023: Dr. Temple Grandin addresses a crowd of about 150 people during a fundraiser at the Wilderwood Equine Therapy center in Peralta. Grandin spoke about the need to find better pathways into the workforce for people with autism. 

March 2023: Nearly 350 runners registered for the seventh annual King of the Hill race in Los Lunas, making it the biggest race in the event’s history. There are four events in the race — a 5K, 10K, 10K rucksack race and the half marathon. 

April 2023: The newest K-9 for the Bosque Farms Police Department, Zella, the warrior princess, greets her handler, Cpl. Brad Killough. 

 May 2023: High School seniors in the Class of 2023 were excited to graduate and begin the next chapter of their lives. Pictured is Belen High School graduation. 

June 2023: As the temperature rose, the splash pad at Daniel D. Fernandez Memorial Park in Los Lunas became a popular place for kids and adults to enjoy the sun or cool off. 

July 2023: Families were able to enjoy fireworks at Eagle Park in Belen. 

 August 2023: President Joe Biden was the first president to visit Valencia County. His two-hour visit included a speech at the Arcosa Wind Towers in the Rio Grande Industrial Park. 

September 2023: During the renovations of Immaculate Conception Church in Tomé, all but two of the original stained-glass windows were saved and replaced. The oldest relic in the church is the Santo Entero or Holy Burial, which is a statue of Christ in the tomb. It was made in 1722 and brought up from Mexico on the Camino Real. 

October 2023: Ron Moya, owner of Roots Farm, presents a fresh cantaloupe. Moya sells a variety of produce to Los Lunas Schools including bell peppers, tomatoes and different kinds of melons. 

November 2023: Local veterans were honored during the annual LIVE Veterans Day event at the Daniel D. Fernandez Memorial Park in Los Lunas. 

December 2023: The Santa Claus is Coming to Town event and Christmas Tree Lighting was a big hit at the Los Lunas Transportation Center.
