One of the highlights of the summer for the Women’s Golf Association is Grandma’s Tournament.

Rio Communities

The featured August event for the Women’s Golf Association was the popular Grandma’s Tournament on Aug. 16.

In addition to the fun team play, there were door prizes for all, including gift certificates to various restaurants in the area.

First Net winners in the first flight were Edie R. Moore, Robin Boyd and Anna Martinez, and Second Net winners were Fran Griffeth, Marilyn Jaramillo and Jane Dolan.

First Net winners in the second flight were Kathy Burrow, Dorothy Lindberg and Joanne Romero. There were not enough players for a second team.

The month began with  the usual meeting day scramble, with first place going to Ginny Romero, Griffeth and Martinez.

During regular play throughout the month, chip-ins were made by Marilyn Winters, Paula Valdez and Lindberg, with Tammie Fuller and Boyd each scoring two. Berta Murzyn scored two birdies.

In Ace Day competitions, Winters won the Ladies 18 Division on both Wednesday, Aug. 9, and on Saturday, Aug. 12.

Lindberg was the winner in the Ladies 9 division on Aug. 9, with no Ladies 9 players on Aug. 12.

Two ladies played in the NM Seniors Tournament at UNM on Aug. 30. Boyd was the First Net winner in her flight, and Lindberg placed Second Net winner in her flight.

The month of September will be busy with the Club Championship competitions in both the Ladies 9 and the Ladies 18 divisions and the continuation of the Ace Day competitions.

As always, new players are welcome to join WGA.  Call Edie R. Moore at 505-859-2304 or Kathy Burrow at 505-270-7048.
