Harold W. Cox III

Our family has lost a great son, husband, father and grandfather. Harold W. Cox III, age 68, a resident of Belen, gained his wings after a short illness.

Services will take place at Romero Funeral Home Chapel on Friday, March 3. The family will be present to welcome loved ones from 9:30-10 a.m., with a celebration of life at 10 a.m., to be officiated by Pastor Leslie Earwood. Interment will follow at Terrace Grove Cemetery.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Harold Jr. and Helen Marie Darnell Cox.

Hal is survived by his loving wife, Kathleen Carter Cox; son, Harold W. IV (Katherine); daughters, Melinda Blea and Michelle Jones (David); stepson, David Perfetti (Valerie); grandchildren, Trinidad Blea, Easton, Jackson, and Jordyn Jones, Luke Cox and Kyle Perfetti; brother, Curtis; and many friends that meant so much to him.

Hal, as he was known to family and friends, had an unmatched passion for life. He was a loyal and dependable friend, well-liked by everyone he encountered. Never missing an opportunity to learn something new or make the best of a situation, Hal truly had a servant’s heart and was always reaching out to those in his community that needed help.

He devoted more than 39 years to Burlington Northern Railroad as a locomotive engineer, but most recently he began to enjoy his retirement. Hal loved baseball and gardening, passions he shared with his wife, Kathleen.

Fondly known as Papa Choo Choo, he adored his six grandchildren. Hal especially loved sharing adventures with his grandkids, helping them explore and appreciate the wonders of life.

While he left us too soon, the impact he had on his friends and family will not be forgotten.

Pallbearers will be Harold Cox IV, David Perfetti, Trinidad Blea, Christopher Carter, John “Bucky” Butkovich and Doty Gonzales.
