Alice Eaton Chavez

Alice Eaton Chavez, age 89, a resident of Belen, and the heart of the family passed away peacefully on Feb. 6, 2024, with her husband, four daughters and son-in-law by her side with much love and prayers.  

Services took place at Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church on Monday, Feb. 12. Interment followed at Our Lady of Belen Memorial Gardens. 

She is survived by her loving and amazing husband of 67 years, Benny P. Chavez; as well as her four daughters, whom she loved with all her heart; Jeanine Chavez Eden, Jaralyn Carda (Joe), Janelle Chavez Adrian (Jeff/deceased) and Jocelyn Sandoval (Chris); 10 grandchildren, Teresa and Patrick Castillo (Wing), Ryan (Abby) and Jared Carda Lauren Hauk (Allen) and Ben Adrian (Kelly), Hayley Frederick (Justin), Sara Sandoval, Chelsea Mulroy (Nolan) and Christopher Sandoval; seven great-grandchildren, Maximus, Evan, Brynley, Kayden, Tinsley, Jamie and Jordyn and three on the way.  

Alice was preceded in death by her parents, Robert C. and Frances Peralta Eaton; father and mother-in-law, Manuel D. and Cecelia Padilla Chavez.  

Alice was born on Feb. 4, in Albuquerque, to Robert C. and Frances P. Eaton. She was a graduate of Socorro High School and later UNM. Alice was a loving and devoted wife, amazing mama and a dedicated and loved elementary school teacher.  

She loved Psalm 23 and listened to music daily. Benny and Alice together embraced life, love and travel.  

Pallbearers were her grandchildren. Honorary pallbearers were Joe Carda, Newlly O’Brien and Chris Sandoval.
