Local baseball and softball teams continue district action this week, including Valencia, above, hosting St. Pius on Tuesday.

Softball   

Valencia (2-13, 1-1) continues to struggle shutting down opponents at the plate.  

Tuesday, the Jaguars fell at home 17-1 to St. Pius (11-4, 2-1).   

The Sartans banged out 24 hits, scored four runs in the first inning and secured the victory with six more in the fifth. Alayna Pacheco drove in Valencia’s lone run.   

The Jaguars continue the district schedule Thursday at winless Highland and Tuesday at home to Belen.     

On Thursday, Belen (11-8, 2-0) will take a six-game winning streak into a home contest against District 5-4A foe Grants (3-14, 0-2.) The streak includes a 30-0 victory over Highland in a game called after three innings.   

In District 5-5A, Los Lunas (9-6, 2-0) travels Friday to Santa Fe for a doubleheader against the Demons (9-8, 0-2.) The Tigers began the week tied for the district lead with Albuquerque High and Santa Fe Capital.   

Baseball   

Valencia (7-12, 0-1) continued district action Tuesday at St. Pius (11-7, 1-2,) losing 7-0. VHS visits Highland Friday.   

Third-ranked 4A school Belen (12-5, 2-0) lost Tuesday to 5A Manzano 8-4 in a non-district game. 

The Eagles won twice last week, including a five-home run, 32-4 victory over Highland. BHS travels Friday to Grants and Saturday to Albuquerque Academy.     

After sweeping a District 5-5A doubleheader from Manzano last week, Los Lunas (9-8, 2-0) hosts Santa Fe (3-13, 1-1) Friday in a league twin bill.
