Valencia will send a large group of powerlifters to the state championships this weekend in Rio Rancho.

Valencia High School will have one of the largest contingents of competitors this weekend when the Powerlifting State Championships get underway at Rio Rancho Events Center.  

The Jaguars, above, qualified 17 lifters — nine boys and eight girls — for the 4A championship.  

Also in 4A, Belen fields a team of four girls and seven boys, including 181-pound top seed Ivander Wilson.  

Los Lunas takes six powerlifters to the 5A meet, five boys and one girl.  

The girls’ championship is Friday, while the boys lift Saturday.
