A very competitive and successful 2023 Fall Frolics was the highlight from October for the Women’s Golf Association.

The tournament was played on a weather perfect day, Monday, Oct. 16, with nine out-of-town teams and six home teams competing. There were three flights playing in the Las Vegas style, four-person, two best balls tournament.

The local team of Jeannie Burleson, Berta Murzyn, Kathryn Bayless, and Regina Trujillo won First Gross honors in Flight 2, with Cleo Wersonick, Taylor Crampton, Marilyn Jaramillo, and Marla Wersonick taking the First Net honors.

In Flight 3, a score-card playoff was needed to determine the winners. The local team of Anna Martinez, Beverly Turley, Tinky Ulivarri and Paula Valdez won first place, and Second Gross winners were Edie Redfearn-Moore, Robin Boyd, Tammie Fuller and Kathy Burrow.

First Net winners in that flight was the local team of Fran Griffeth, Janel Lowery, Marilyn Winters and Dorothy Lindberg.

All winners from Flight 1 were out-of-town teams.

Individual awards from the tournament were won by Murzyn for Longest Drive and Closest to the Pin in Flight 2 on hole number 3 and Jaramillo for Closest to the Pin in Flight 2 on hole number 17.

Regular play days completed the scheduled activities for the month. Birdies were made by Crampton, Murzyn, and Jaramillo, who also had a chip-in birdie and a separate chip-in, while Griffeth scored a chip-in.

First Gross winners throughout the month were Crampton, R.Moore, Murzyn, and Jaramillo with two wins.

As the 2023 season winds down, the next regular play days are scheduled. Final plans for the Dec. 9 Christmas luncheon are being finalized.

Ladies who would like to join WGA for the 2024 season, which begins in March, are asked to contact Edie Redfearn-Moore at 505-859-2304 or Kathy Burrow at 505-270-7048.
