Fonda Torres

1946-2024

Fonda Torres

Fonda Torres, age 77, a resident of Belen, passed away surrounded by loved ones on May 1, 2024. She was born to James and Helen Linker on Dec. 11, 1946.

She is preceded in passing by her husband, Joe Torres; sister, Bonnie Linker; parents, and her son, Timothy Torres.

Fonda worked at the training school, where she loved taking care of her clients. She loved to dance La Bamba and sure did love her Elvis.

She was a collector and had beautifully ornate collections of owls and M&Ms. Her fun personality would show when she’d watch her favorites on TV, “King Kong,” “Dracula” and crime shows. Fonda never turned down the opportunity to try her hand at a good card game given the opportunity.

Her home was always a spectacle during the holidays as she loved to dress it up and decorate, especially for Christmas and Halloween. She was strong in her faith and loved the Lord.

In the kitchen, she was the best — filling her family’s bellies with her extraordinary tortilla. Her turkey noodle soup after Thanksgiving was one for the recipe books. The recipe that can’t be duplicated, her secret. Her love was shared through the meals she provided for her family.

Fonda’s door was one that was always open. She wouldn’t turn away a soul. She loved her animals, her family, her friends, and her community. She will be greatly missed by all those that loved her.

She is survived by her sons, Vidal Torres, Sammy Garnett (Jacqui), James Garnett (Donna), Eric Garnett (Nancy) and Victor Encinias (girlfriend, Shelly); stepsons, Charlie Torres, Ronnie Torres and James Torres (Manuel); brothers, John (Kathy), Joe (Karen) and Paul (Dave); sisters, Freda (Keith) and Marla (Vincent); grandchildren, Victoria, Colton, Alisha, Sabrina and Matthew; four great-grandchildren as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Services for Fonda will be held at In His Presence Ministries Church on Thursday, May 9. A visitation will take place at 10 a.m., followed by the funeral service at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow at Terrace Grove Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Vidal Torres, Joe Linker, Paul Linker, Charles Torres, Vincent Zamora, Victor Encinias, Adam Keck, Sammy Garnet, Jeremiah Wall, Alvin Jaramillo and John Linker.

Arrangements are being handled by the caring professionals at the Noblin Funeral Service Belen Chapel, where an online guest register is available at noblin.com.
