Jerry Lee Trout

Died 2023

Jerry Lee Trout

Jerry Lee Trout, 79, of Rio Communities, passed away peacefully at home with his beloved family at his side on Oct. 12, 2023.

Jerry grew up in Rural Oklahoma spending free time fishing and hunting. He often spent days with his dog, Wolf, hunting and exploring the Oklahoma countryside.

After high school, Jerry went on to obtain his master’s degree in education from Eastern New Mexico University, where he met the love of his life, Jean.

He taught mathematics at Tatum High School and Aztec High School while serving in the New Mexico National Guard.

He was awarded “Teacher of the Year” during his tenure at Aztec High, and was also awarded the Army Commendation Medal for his exceptional service as plans officer for the 111th Air Defense Artillery Brigade of the New Mexico Army National Guard. This citation praised his enthusiasm, devotion and dedicated duty.

While Jerry held many titles in his life, his favorite role was being a father and grandfather. He was always there for his daughters, often working three jobs to make sure they never wanted for anything. His grandsons were the ultimate joy of his life. He loved nothing more than spending time helping them with their homework or watching them play baseball.

Jerry is preceded in death by his sister, Deanna Sue Robinson of Hobbs, N.M.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Jean, as well as his daughters, Stephanie (Jose) Torrez, of Rio Communities, and Julia (Roger) Johns of Douglasville, Ga.; two grandsons, Rey and Tomas Torrez; mother-in-law, Marjorie Sanders, and brother-in-law, Charlie Robinson of Lovington, N.M.

Our family will forever treasure our memories of Jerry. He had the greatest ability to make others smile and feel special. His love knew no boundaries and his sense of humor and devotion to his family will be greatly missed.

In lieu of flowers, Jerry requested donations be made to First United Methodist Church of Belen.
