Judith E. (Wright) Eppard

Judith E. (Wright) Eppard, 89, of Los Lunas, died Feb. 27, 2024. 

Graveside service will take place at 12 p.m., Thursday, March 7, at Terrace Grove Cemetery. 

Judy was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister.  

She leaves her loving family, sons, Doug (Elizabeth), and Steve (Annette); grandchildren, Eric, Anna (Sean), Sara (Ray), Darren (Heather) and Michael; great-grandchildren, Morganne, Macee, Brenden, Tyler, Bryce, Adrianna and Kennedy.  

Judy was the eldest of seven, Janet Zimmerman, Charlene Norris, Dorothy Jones (Edgar), Chester (Donna), Donna (Alfred) and Terry Clift (Diane). 

Judy was born Nov. 6, 1934, in Portsmouth, Ohio, to Chester and Kathrine Wright. Her family moved from Kentucky to Pajarito, N.M., in 1943. Then the family moved to Los Lunas in 1946. Judy’s father, Chester, died in 1950 from black lung disease. 

Judy married Jessie Eppard on Dec. 30, 1950, and was married close to 70 years before Jessie’s passing in 2020. Judy and Jess were founding members of the Los Lunas First Baptist Church. 

Judy attended and graduated from Los Lunas schools. She worked as a clerk at Huning Mercantile, then became a secretary of Los Lunas Schools and Ranchers State Bank. 

Judy and Jess moved to California in 1968, where they both were employed at Mare Island Naval Shipyard. They both retired from the shipyard in 1990. They returned to their farm in Los Lunas in 2000. 

Judy was an avid bowler and was inducted in to the Napa-SWBA Hall of Fame, Meritorious Service in 1999, at Napa, Calif.  

She enjoyed crocheting, quilting, reading, gardening and most of all, her family. Her children and grandchildren will forever appreciate and cherish the fact that their life has been shaped and guided by the love she gave them.
