Larry and Diana Gallegos presented a $1,000 scholarship in memory of their son and 2005 LLHS graduate, Christopher Gallegos.

Diana and Larry Gallegos, right, presents Gabriel Gutierrez, left, with a $1,000 scholarship.

Chris was a stellar athlete and young man who made every moment count and never took any opportunity for granted. Chris passed away on Sept. 4, 2017, at the age of 30 from sudden unexpected death of epilepsy or SUDEP. He is remembered for his heart, courage, passion for life and faith in God.

This scholarship was set up to honor a student who also has shown dedication to God, family, friends as well as to his education and sports.

The 2020 Christopher Gallegos Memorial Scholarship was presented to Gabriel Gutierrez, a 2020 Los Lunas High School graduate. Gabriel has shown leadership in and out of the classroom.

He was a four-year academic letterman as well as participating in Tiger football and basketball. He is attending the University of New Mexico in pursuit of an engineering degree.

The Gallegos family congratulates Gabriel in all his accomplishments and wish him much success in his future. The family hopes to continue to provide scholarships in memory of their son, Christopher Gallegos, for years to come.

In 2018, the family provided a $1,500 scholarship to a LLHS graduate. In 2019, they were able to provide four scholarships in the amounts of $1,000, $500, $300 and $200 to four LLHS students. This year, Gabriel Gutierrez was the recipient of $1,000

If you would like to help provide additional scholarship funds in memory of Chris Gallegos, donate at Nusenda Credit Union under the account, Christopher Gallegos Memorial Scholarship Fund.

Please also consider donating to the Epilepsy Foundation. Much work is needed to research treatment options for persons suffering from seizures and hopefully prevent further deaths from SUDEP.

The mission of the Epilepsy Foundation is to lead the fight to overcome the challenges of living with epilepsy and to accelerate therapies to stop seizures, find cures and save lives. You can dedicate your gift in memory of Christopher Gallegos.
