Manuel Antonio Bermudez

Ret. Gunnery Sgt. Manuel Bermudez, age 56, of Logan, N.M., was called home to his Lord and Savior on Oct. 13, 2023. 

Manuel was born on Sept. 8, 1967, in Albuquerque, to Joe and Dora Bermudez. Manuel, also known as Meme, was a true hero to his country and hometown, having served seven tours in the United States Marine Corp. He was the recipient of three Purple Hearts and other commendations, displaying his unwavering dedication and bravery.  

Manuel was a wonderful husband, son, father, brother, grandpa, cousin and friend. Manuel’s presence could fill the room. Everyone who met him, loved him. Manuel will be deeply missed.  

Manuel is preceded in death by his mom, Dora Bermudez; grandparents, Manuel and Selia Chapa, and Faustino and Manuela Bermudez.  

Manuel is survived by his wife, Mickie Bermudez, of Logan; his dad, Joe Bermudez, of Los Lunas; brother, Faustino (Margaret) Bermudez, of Albuquerque; and sister, Amanda Bermudez, of Los Lunas.  

He is also survived by his children, JoeRay, Ana, Clay, Jeremiah and CasSandra; and his grandchildren, Isabella, Amora, Nevaeh, Arissa, Lincoln and Jeremiah Jr.  

Manuel’s educational journey was marked by his pursuit of knowledge, culminating in a master’s degree. Beyond his academic achievements, Manuel found solace and joy in his hobbies, particularly music. 

Services took place Oct. 24 at Ute Lake in Logan. Manuel was laid to rest on Oct. 25 at Santa Fe National Cemetery. A visitation will be held at 10 a.m., followed by a Rosary at 10:30 a.m., and the Memorial Mass will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 28, at the Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Peralta. 

Dunn Funeral Home in Tucumcari, N.M., is assisting the family with the arrangements.
