Melanie Suzanne Romero

Melanie Suzanne Romero, age 51, a resident of Houston and Austin, Texas, and formally of Belen, passed away on March 9, 2024, at her home in Houston.

Graveside services will take place on Friday, April 26, at Our Lady of Belen Memorial Gardens with a gathering of friends and family at 12 p.m., with graveside services at 12:30 p.m.

She is survived by her father, Richard “Dicky” Romero; brothers, Craig (Amy) and Sky; aunt, Juliane Romero; lifelong childhood friend, Liza Chavez; and many cousins.

Melanie is preceded in death by her mother and best friend, Suzanne Romero; paternal grandparents, Arno and Barbara Hightower Romero; maternal grandparents, Phillip “Muggins” and Hazel Lovelady Pierce; uncles, Ben and Nick Romero; and aunt, Olivia Romero.

Melanie was a free-loving spirit, who never met a stranger. She was a caregiver for the elderly and was dubbed the “Grandma Whisperer” because of her uncanny ability to make the elderly want to thrive.

Melanie’s love for animals was amazing, and even addicting. She could make you love a stray just by her strong desire to give of herself to those in need.

Melanie will be missed by all who loved and knew her.
