Russell Eugene Sanchez

1955-2024

Russell Eugene Sanchez

Russell Eugene Sanchez, age 69, and a lifelong resident of Valencia County, passed away peacefully on April 10, 2024. His family was by his side as Jesus Christ set him free.

Services will take place on Thursday, April 25, at Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church, beginning with a visitation at 9 a.m., followed by a Rosary at 10 a.m., and Funeral Mass to be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow at Our Lady of Belen Memorial Gardens.

He was born on Jan. 11, 1955, to Juan and Daisy Sanchez. He was the oldest of six children and took pride in his family and heritage. He grew up in Los Trujillos, N.M., and spent time tending to the Lazy JS Family Ranch in Scholle, N.M. It was here that he learned hard work and dedication.

He was a member of Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church, and graduated from Belen High School in 1973. Russell established his career as a general contractor/framer, building new homes and remodeling old ones. He was meticulous in his work and most of it can still be found standing and appreciated today.

When he wasn’t working, he was out and about riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle. Russell will be remembered for his free spirit, “tough” demeanor, outlandish remarks, and his perseverance throughout all his life challenges. He was a strong man with a big heart. He loved God, family and friends.

Russell Sanchez is preceded in death by his parents, Juan and Daisy Sanchez; his grandparents, Antonio F. and Marianita Sanchez, and Bonifacio and Mary Chavez; and his sister, Gail Sanchez.

He is survived by his children, Sherie Sanchez and Ricoh Sanchez (Rebecca); his siblings, Catherine Walker (Donald Chavez), Yvonne Sanchez, Marilyn Sanchez-Kaneshiro (Robert) and John Sanchez (Denise); his grandchildren, Lawrence, Angel, Angelo, Heaven, Cruzito, Bella, Grace and Francisco Sanchez. He is also survived by his great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Jasper Walker, Amber Segura, Mark Spargo, Trebor Kaneshiro, Karly Aragon, Vicky Romero- Kaneshiro, Juan Sanchez, Thomas Kaneshiro, Nicolle Sanchez and Leandra Sanchez. Honorary pallbearers will be Zachary Chavez, Eli Chavez and Barbara Ussery.
