Danielle Leticia (Moya) Armijo

1976-2021

Danielle Leticia (Moya) Armijo, age 44, a resident of Peralta, passed away Sunday, Jan. 31, 2021, after a hard-fought battle against COVID-19.

She was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Peralta.

Danielle is preceded in death most recently by her paternal grandparents, Claudio Moya Sr. and Nora V. Moya; and her maternal grandfather, Chrissie Garley.

She is survived by her loving husband, Michael Armijo; and the joy in her life, her son, Marcos; and stepchildren, Michael and Savannah; parents, Claudio Moya Jr. and Judith (Judy) Moya; brother, Joseph Moya and his partner, Patty; niece, Lovieanna; nephew, Gunner; maternal grandmother, Sally Garley; and many loving aunts, uncles and cousins.

Danielle worked for the New Mexico Department of Health, Women, Infant and Children (WIC) program in Los Lunas and enjoyed the work she did. She was very devoted to her family and loyal to her friends. Danielle was a wonderful wife and mother and such a loving daughter.

She had a huge heart with so much love to share with everyone and anyone. Danielle will be so sadly missed in the Moya and Armijo families and is leaving an incredible, rich legacy. She has left us way too soon and so very young.

Per Danielle’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a celebration of her life will be held at a later date. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, a very limited funeral will take place.

Brandie Barr

Died 2021

For a short time, we had an angel here with us. After touching so many lives, God called her home.

She went to join her dad and great-grandma. For us who are left behind, we are touched by the bright light she gave us. Mom, birth mom, brother-in-law, grandma, other relatives and many friends, are left behind to remember. To all the people who help keep her light shining, we thank you.

For all the prayers she received through her short life, we thank you. She wrote her own book and our Lord has written the ending. Her work on Earth is done. She has gone home.

Carmela Chavez Carpio

1974-2021

Carmela Chavez Carpio, age 46, a resident of Los Lunas, passed away peacefully in her home on Jan. 27, 2021.

She was born and raised in Jarales. Carmela enjoyed spending time with her son, Johnathan Carpio, and visiting with family and friends. She graduated from Belen High School in 1992 and attended NAIT business school.

Carmela is now in her heavenly home with our Lord Jesus Christ. Our precious, we all will love you forever and when our Savior Jesus calls us home, we will be together again.

Carmela is survived by her son, Johnathan Carpio; parents, Vitalia and Roman Chavez; siblings, Contessa Hernandez and husband, Jesse, Paul Chavez and wife, Maggie.

Lesmen Chavez

1929-2021

Lesmen Chavez, age 92, a resident of Tomé, passed away on Sunday, Feb. 7, 2021, surrounded by his loving family.

He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Tomé. Lesmen was a well-known area farmer, growing crops of alfalfa and corn. He loved to dance and never missed a church fiesta to dance under the carpa.

Lesmen is preceded in death by his wife, Helen Chavez, in 2005; his loving friend, Crisanta Garcia, in 2017; parents, Manuel and Beatriz Maldonado Chavez; and sister, Celia Moya.

He is survived by his 13 loving children, many loving grandchildren, great-grandchildren and his loving siblings, nieces and nephews.

Services will take place on Thursday, Feb. 11, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Tomé, with a public viewing at 10 a.m., a Rosary to be recited at 10:30 a.m., a Funeral Mass at 11 a.m. and interment to follow at Tomé Catholic Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be his grandchildren, Nathan, Dominic, Eugene, Adrian, Jake and Michael.

James C. Holroyd

Died 2021

James C. Holroyd, age 79, a resident Los Lunas, passed away on Sunday, Feb. 7, 2021.

He was a member of the Valley Lutheran Church. He enjoyed skiing and playing golf. James was a good soul and fabulous person.

He is preceded in death by his parents, sister, Ann Philoon and brother, Wilson Holroyd.

James is survived by his loving wife of 28 years, Louise B. Thomas; son, Kyle Holroyd; and stepdaughter, Terrie L. Gagne.

Nannette M. Lane

1949-2021

Nannette M. Lane, age 71, a resident of Bosque, passed away on Feb. 1, 2021.

She was a member of the Catholic Church, the New Mexico Horse Breeders Association, the American Quarter Horse Association and the Jockey Club Association.

Nannette was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Vera Fagan, of Belen; and brother, Larry Fagan, of Socorro.

She is survived by her husband, Terrence Lane; children, Veronica Lane, Shalen and Scott Taylor, Mellanie and Howard Muzingo and Colleen Croy; grandchildren, Whitney and Dustin Spohn, Colby Skidmore, Kayle Skidmore, Kyler Skidmore, Zane and Rylee Muller, Addy Trimmell, Jayden Jones and Zaxx Muzingo; great-grandchildren, Mason and Doughtry Spohn; and close family friend, Ceazar Perez.

Burial will take place at Santa Fe National Cemetery. A memorial services will take place at a later date.

Mary “Maria” Moreno

1926-2021

Mary “Maria” Moreno, 95, of Belen, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Monday, Feb. 1, 2021.

Born to Adriano and Demecia Silva in Manzano, N.M., on Jan. 22, 1926, she met the love of her life, Trinidad Moreno, at the Belen Fiestas. They were subsequently married on Nov. 22, 1943, in Willard, N.M. As devout Catholics, Mom and Dad raised 12 children in Our Lady of Belen Church where they were lifetime members.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 68 years, Trinidad, who passed away in 2011 at the age of 92; brothers, Margarito, Ricardo and Jose; and her sister, Manuela; her daughters, Theresa Fajardo and Demecia Gallegos; sons-in-law, Rey Gallegos and Phil Peralta; and grandchildren, Jennifer Villanueva and Gabriel Moreno.

Mary is survived by her daughters, Rosie (James) Garley, Erlinda (Freddie) Villanueva, Priscilla (Jerry) Barela and Angela Peralta; her sons, Mario (Misty), Pete (Sally), Manuel (Barbara), Ruben, Michael and Jude Moreno; son-in-law, David Fajardo; and lifetime family friend, Lydia Pino.

In addition to her 12 children, Mary is survived by 18 grandchildren, Gloria (Ray) Ruiz, JoAnne (Ralph) Kassian, Yvonne (Bobby) Kallenberger, David Jr. (Paula) Fajardo, Michael (Jacqueline) Fajardo, Frances Medrano, Louisa (Chris) Getman, Sybil (Arturo) Mora, Vanessa (Kevin) Guillen, Lucy (Jose) Alderete, Juaquin Villanueva, Penny Moreno-Valdez, Sammy Barela, Jerry Barela Jr., Reyes (Allison) Moreno, Joseph (Geraldine) Moreno, Levi Moreno and Crystal (Jonathan) Peralta. Mary was also blessed with 49 great-grandchildren, 30 great-great grandchildren and 13 adopted children, all of whom deeply loved and cherished their beloved Gramma.

We are exceedingly proud that Mary was a 5-Star Blue Star Mother representing five of her children who served in various branches of the military during the Vietnam War and thereafter. She was a homemaker until the age of 40 when she went back to school and completed her diploma from Belen High School. Concurrently, she started making tortillas at home for Daisy’s Grocery store before tortilla companies existed. Mary retired from Belen Senior Center after many years as head cook. Guests raved about her delicious nutritional meals.

In her lifetime she enjoyed sewing, reading, cooking her best enchiladas and tamales; riding the van with others to play bingo or the slots. Mary was extraordinarily creative and talented. Early on, she loved to play guitar and sang with her sister. Later, she enjoyed sewing Easter dresses and fancy little hats for her young daughters. Mary had many friends and was an integral member of both the community and the lives of her immediate and extended family.

All services will be held at Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church on Friday, Feb. 12, with visitation at 9 a.m., a Rosary at 9:30 a.m., a Funeral Mass at 10 a.m., and inurnment to follow at Our Lady of Belen Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers are Mikal Araujo, Reyes Moreno Jr., Jeremiah Moreno, and Adrian Gallegos. Honorary pallbearers are her grandsons, David Fajardo Jr., Michael Fajardo Sr., Michael Fajardo Jr., Joseph Moreno, Levi Moreno, Sammy Barela, Juaquin Villanueva and Joshua Salmon.

The family extends their gratitude to Alyssa Cerkleski and Tina Bibiano (Presbyterian Hospital) who offered compassionate home care for our dear mother during her final days.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Our Lady of Belen Cemetery Fund.

Frank Rivera

1932-2021

Frank Rivera, age 89, a resident of Bosque, passed away on Friday, Feb. 5, 2021.

He was a member of Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church. Frank was a heavy equipment operator for the New Mexico DOT for 32 years. He loved going to the senior citizens center to dance.

Frank was preceded in death by his parents, Nicholas and Romola Rivera; four brothers Manuel, Nicholas, Valentin and Joe Rivera; four sisters, Julia Padilla, Annie Padilla, Maggie Reynolds and Mary Chavez; and his loving wife of 52 years, Manuela “Nellie” Rivera.

He is survived by his sons, Frank Jr. and Raymond “Tony” Rivera and wife, Robin; daughter, Lori Rivera; grandchildren, Eric, Gracie and Charlie; great-grandchildren, Ana’ Liyah and A’maree; sister, Petra Freeze; and Freddie Rivera. Frank is also survived by many loving cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Pallbearers are Eric Rivera, Michael Rivera, Charlie Rivera, Mario Amaro, Augusta Amaro and Robin Rivera. Honorary pallbearers will be Gracie Rivera, Martin Rivera, Andres Estrada, A’maree Rivera and Ana’ Liyah Sandoval.

Services will be held at Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church on Friday, Feb. 26. A viewing will begin at 8:30 a.m., with a Rosary to be recited at 9:30 a.m., and a Funeral Mass to be celebrated at 10 a.m. Interment will follow at Our Lady of Belen Memorial Gardens.
