Andy V. Ortega, age 81, a resident of Belen, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family on June 16, 2023.

Services will take place on Wednesday, June 28, at Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church beginning with a visitation at 9 a.m., followed by a Rosary at 10 a.m. and a Funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow at Our Lady of Belen Memorial Gardens.

He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Mary Ann Barela Ortega; sons, Andrew (Lynn) and Angelo Ortega; grandchildren, Brittany Rae Coleman (Dylan), Gavin, Gabriel, Garik and Brandy Rae Ortega, and Christopher and Caity; great-grandchildren, Xander, Kaelem, Danny, Buddy, Caadyn Rae, Alyssa and Brianna; siblings, Alex, Celestino (Mary Lou), Jimmy (Lorena), Tony (Maria), Bernice, Connie and Eva Ortega; and all his Barela family.

Andy is preceded in death by his parents, parents-in-law, Jose and Ernestina Barela; siblings, Fred, Cecilia and Florela; and siblings-in-law, Abran, Earl and Bernice.

He was born in 1942 in San Juan, N.M., to Pilar and Leonor Vigil Ortega. Andy owned Andy’s Barber Shop in Belen, where he served his community for 25 years.

He retired from Belen Schools after 25 years, and was a member of Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church for 51 years.
