The Belen girls, pictured at left, outscored Highland Friday, 12-4, in the fourth quarter to win their first district game of the season, 44-36. Sara Martinez led BHS with 13 points. On Monday, the Eagles (7-11, 1-1) lost a non-district game at Manzano, 54-51.   

In other girls’ basketball, despite 32 points from Jadyn Montoya, Valencia (11-8, 0-2) lost Tuesday to second ranked St. Pius, 67-56.   

Los Lunas (11-7, 2-0) downed Santa Fe, 46-21, Saturday and then played its first home game in more than a month Wednesday, defeating Capital 35-27.   

For the boys, LLHS (12-7, 3-0) nipped Santa Fe Saturday, 58-57, and Tuesday Jalin Holland scored 34 points at Capital in a 66-35 victory.   

After a loss at the buzzer to Grants, VHS (11-9, 0-2) fell behind 19-7 after the first quarter and lost at St. Pius, 60-34.  Damian Estrada and Carin Bustillos combined for 21 points in the loss.

BHS (7-12, 0-2) came up short Friday at Highland, 82-66, with Alan Moreno scoring 16 points. The Eagles play Friday at Grants.
