Belen swimmer Dylan Jones has reason to smile after qualifying in seven events for the state championships.

Belen senior Dylan Jones reached state swimming qualifying times in two more events Jan. 20 during the Albuquerque Academy Invitational.

Jones hit the standard in the 200 individual medley and 50 freestyle, while also setting a personal record time in winning the 100 breaststroke.

After competing in one event at the 2023 state championships, Jones has now qualified in seven events — four individual races and three relays.

“It’s a pretty big change, but I’m excited for it,” said Jones, who is limited to two individual events and two relays at state. “It’s really about picking which ones I think I’ll do better at in finals.”

In addition, three other Eagles qualified during a Santa Fe Prep meet — Iris Silva in the 50 freestyle, and Cole Rodriguez and Nehemiah Sanchez in the 100 freestyle.

The New Mexico State Championships are scheduled for Feb. 23-24 at Albuquerque Academy.
