Jerry B. Koenig

Jerry B. Koenig

Jerry B. Koenig (Grandpa Jerry), age 80, a resident of Rio Rancho, passed away at his home on Monday, Dec.12, 2022. He was born on Oct. 10, 1942, in Gordon, Neb.

Jerry is preceded in death by his loving wife of 40 years, Joyce Koenig (Lenocker); parents, John and Lucelle Koenig; brothers, Jack, Melvin, Jim and Ben Koenig; sister, Marva Simkins; and his beloved golden retriever, Lady.

He is survived by his four children, Rick (Fredine), Greg (Billie Jean), Blain (Susan) Koenig, and Sandra (Jeremy) Casados; 12 grandchildren, David, Lynette, Marsha, Jerry, Bryan, Antonia, Amanda, Kathryn, William, Max, Alice and Emily; 23 great-grandchildren, who he absolutely adored; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Jerry did many things throughout his life. A few of those being the time he spent as a professional barber, a chef, a restaurant owner, and director of Shotgun Range Operations at Del Norte Gun Club in Rio Rancho.

Jerry’s biggest roles in his life were that of son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle and friend. He loved eating candy, dancing, singing, cooking and watching college sports while enjoying candy, playing cards, animals, coin collecting, Cookie Day, Christmas, making and eating holiday candy and green chile chicken enchiladas.

What Jerry truly loved most was spending time with his family, enjoying any or all of the above (with candy). He had a memorably clever, funny and playful personality. Jerry proclaimed himself to be very charming at times but was mostly a matter of fact, straight to the point, down to Earth, man of his word.

He looked forward to sharing his stories and wisdom with anyone who would listen. These traits ensure that there will always be a “Grandpa Jerry” story to tell. Jerry will be deeply missed, never forgotten, and forever loved.
