Norma May (Casteel) Dean 

1931-2024 

Celebrating the life of Norma May (Casteel) Dean. Norma was born March 8, 1931, in Nebraska, to Rose Marie and Alvin Casteel. 

During her childhood, the family moved often, but ultimately settled in San Diego County, Calif., where she attended school, graduating from Grossmont High School. After graduation, she married her high school sweetheart, William A (Bill) Dean, and followed him all over the USA throughout his U.S. Army and civil service careers.  

Norma is preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Douglas; her son, William R. (Bill Jr.) Dean; and grandson, William G. A. (Billy) Dean. 

Norma is survived by her husband of 74 years, William A. Dean; daughters, Nikki Dean Williams and husband, Brian, of Bremerton, Wash., Tammie Dean, of Belen; sister, Valeri Holbrook, of Porterville, Calif.; daughter-in-law, Susan Bardot Dean and granddaughter, Sarah Rose Amador, of North Carolina, grandson, Joel Skubinna of Seattle, Wash.; grand daughter-in-law, Misty Dean of Vista, Calif; and several great-grandchildren, Jacob and Vinny Amador, Wednesday Mellon and Thor Dean. 

Norma was a homemaker and a foster parent to many babies and toddlers for CPS in San Diego County in the years prior to retiring in Belen. Norma loved God, her family, everything Disney, Native American, domestic animals, reading Western romance novels and the community she lived in. 

Norma has resided in Belen for more than 30 years, and she was active in her church until illness prevented her attendance; she will be missed by many. 

A memorial service for Norma will take place at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, March, 23, at the First Presbyterian Church of Belen.
