Robert Udden Anderson

1943-2020

Robert Udden Anderson, age 76, passed away on Oct. 8, 2020, after fighting ill health for nearly a year.

Bob Anderson was born on Dec. 6, 1943, in Baltimore, MD, and grew up in Mount Lebanon, Penn. He was a Russian translator in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War.

Bob first came to love New Mexico as a Scout at Philmont Scout Ranch. He returned in 1969 to make New Mexico his home.

Bob attended UNM and was director of UNM’s Division of Government Research for more than two decades. He was able to retire at age 50 to enjoy a life of playing racquetball, buying/selling books, traveling and reading. He lived with his wife, Sandy Schauer, in Los Lunas, for 30 years.

Bob is survived by his wife of 36 1/2 years, Sandy Schauer, of Los Lunas; his sister, Sue Anderson and husband, Shamel Shawki, of Naperville Ill.; niece and nephew, Nora Shawki (Ehsan Sheikh) and Sharif Shawki (Sean Serluco), of Chicago, Ill.; and other relatives.

Bob fell short of his goal of voting for Biden/Harris, but he’ll be there for the ballot counting in spirit no matter how long it takes.

Interment will take place at Santa Fe National Cemetery at a later date.

Ann Dumas

1951-2020

Ann Marie Dumas, 69, passed away in her Peralta home in the early morning hours of Oct. 2, 2020, after suffering from numerous progressive lung conditions over the last several years.

Ann was the first child of Robert John and Janet Marie Wirth, and was born, raised and lived in New Mexico her entire life. She attended West Mesa High School, New Mexico State University, University of Albuquerque and the University of New Mexico School of Law.

She served as a nurse for many years, being the first in the state to receive the designation of critical care certified RN. Thereafter, she attended law school, and earned a prestigious federal court clerkship with Judge Edwin L. Mechem, who was both a mentor and lifelong friend.

If you knew her, you knew her laugh, which could be heard across a room and was unmistakably Ann. She loved to grow things — flowers, fruit, vegetables, which provided countless meals for families and friends and earned hundreds of blue ribbons at the New Mexico State Fair.

She loved her time in the Jemez Mountains, especially on Wirth Hill, where many treasured family times were had. She loved being a mom, making and adopting kids as often as possible, and serving as a neighborhood mom to even more. She was a hippie, a farmer, a metal detectorist, a crafter, a canner, a grannie, and a loyal and generous friend.

She was preceded in death by her parents, three of her children, Tina Marie Dumas, Paul Robert Rene Dumas and Roger Thomas Dumas; and the love of her life/father of her children, Gerard Paul “Jerry” Dumas.

She is survived by her children, Jenny Dumas (Quinn Kirby), John Dumas (Audrey), Carol Cazé (Roberto), Michael Dumas (Ruthie), and Gerard Paul (“Jerry”) Dumas Jr.; sister Debra Wirth-Schnieder (Ken); treasured cousin/brother Mike Wirth; eight grandchildren, Harlan, Riley, Henry, Oliva, Lumi, Azelyn, Ember and Ivy; dear friends/adopted family members, Sara and Gene Heaslet, Pam and Dave Thomas, Barbara de Weever and William McKinstry, Alonzo “Gabe” Abeyta and many more.

Ann loved to host a harvest party when the corn came in, and a Christmas party in December, where she reconnected with friends from all stages of life.

While we are saddened not to see you all and to share our grief and memories with you at this time, we look forward to a time when we can gather in celebration of her life. We plan to have a big Ann Dumas-style party when it is safe to do so. We will share food, memories and do some planting in her honor, an idea she loved. Everyone is invited. Rose B. Elledge

1933-2020

Rose B. Elledge, age 86, a resident of Los Lunas, born in Antioch, Calif., passed away peacefully on Oct. 11, 2020.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Leo and Vivian Briones; brothers, Leo and Butch Briones; former husband, Gilbert Sanchez; son, Peter Sanchez; and her beloved dog, Mimi.

Rose is survived by her children, Maria Sanchez, Julia Sanchez and Daniel Sanchez; and nine grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and her loving dogs Angel, Dottie Mae and Buford; and the man she spent the last years of her life dancing the night away with, the only man that ever made her heart skip a beat, Felix Dominguez.

Services will take place at San Clemente Catholic Church in Los Lunas on Friday, Oct. 16, beginning with a Rosary to be recited at 9:30 a.m. and a Funeral Mass at 10 a.m.. Interment will take place at a later date.

Gordon Nelson Johnson

1947-2020

Gordon Nelson Johnson, affectionately called “Nellie” by his closest friends, passed away on Sept. 29, 2020, after a brief battle with cancer.

He was born in Hope, Ark., on Feb. 26, 1947, to Myrtice Randall Johnson and Bennie Johnson.

Nelson graduated from Arkansas High School in Texarkana, Ark., in 1965, where he was senior class president, a member of the football team, science club and math club, Rotary Good Citizen and too many other activities to count.

He attended the University of Arkansas and graduated in 1970 with a degree in business administration. While at the university, he was active in the Army ROTC and a member of the Pershing Rifles.

Nelson found a way to enjoy everything in life from meeting new people and keeping in touch with the old, and loved being involved. He lived a life all should emulate: he loved deeply, cared immensely, helped effervescently, laughed loud and played hard.

Nelson is preceded in death by his parents, Bennie and Myrtice Johnson.

He is survived by his wife, Pamela Johnson, of Belen; his children, John David and Kate Johnson; and grandson, Jackson, of Fayetteville, Ark.

Claudio Moya Sr.

1935-2020

Claudio Moya Sr., age 85, a resident of Peralta, passed away Friday, Oct. 9, 2020.

He was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Peralta.

Claudio is preceded in death by his youngest son, Danny; and parents, Eliseo and Carolina Lucero Moya.

He is survived by his devoted and loving wife of 67 years, Nora Vialpando Moya; his two children, Claudio Moya Jr. and wife, Judith, and Lupita Moya and husband, Gary Zedalis; seven grandchildren, Margo Jiron (Mike), Andres Barros, Lucas Barros (Jeanette), Patrick Zedalis, Joseph Moya (Patty), Danielle Armijo (Mike) and Mario Sanchez; several great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Claudio retired from Los Lunas Schools as a mechanic and prior to that ran his own business at Peralta Shamrock. He also was a life-long farmer and loved working on his tractor. Claudio loved playing his guitar and singing mariachi music.

He loved to travel and was very social, had many friends, loved having matanzas, and when he traveled, he never met a stranger. Claudio will be missed by everyone who knew him and has left a rich legacy for his family.

Services took place on Tuesday, Oct. 13, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Peralta. Interment followed at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Lucas Barros, Patrick Zedalis, Daniel Jiron, Joseph Moya, Brian Sanchez and Lucas Orozco-Barros. Honorary pallbearers were Andres Barros, Tatianna Jiron and Dominique Jiron.

Barbara I. Ramirez

1953-2020

Barbara I. Ramirez, 63, born Sept. 30, 1953, passed away on Oct. 7, 2020.

Barbara is survived by her son, Benjamin Baca; and grandchildren, Santos Ramirez, Melanie and Mia Baca.

She is survived by one brother and three sisters, Gilbert Moya and wife, Crusita, Antonia Frisk, JoAnna Johnston and partner, Randy Baca, Maryann and husband, Albert Rodriguez; sisters-in-law, Shirley Romero and Polly Moya; and many nephews and nieces.

Barbara is preceded in death by her parents, Andy and Maria Moya; son, Jesus Ramirez; brothers, Santos, Eloy and Juan Moya; and sister, Tibby Moya.

Barbara was a resident of Albuquerque (Los Padillas). She loved to be around family and friends, especially her grandchildren, Mia and Melanie. She enjoyed taking them for rides in the car when they were little.

Barbara was very well known by lots of people, and loved by everyone who she crossed paths with. She was a very happy and loving person, full of energy.

She was very close to her auntie, Shirley Carrillo, and nephew, Edwin Contreras. Barbara’s pride and joy was her son, Benjamin Baca.

Barbara will be truly missed by her loved ones and never forgotten. Rest in peace. Till we meet again.

A memorial will be held at a later date for both sisters. The Moya family would like to thank everyone for all their help and prayers.

Elizabeth K. Rumschlag

1981-2020

Elizabeth K. Rumschlag, age 38, beautiful and beloved daughter of Joyce and Chuck Rumschlag, passed away peacefully on Monday, Oct. 5, 2020.

She is survived by her parents; sister, Gwendolen Simko (Mickey); brothers, Peter Rumschlag (Rachel) and Jonpaul Rumschlag (Barbara); nieces, Ave and Claire; nephews, Ty, Mason, Dash, Joseph, James and Jacob; favorite aunt, Marcia Pluto; and numerous other aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces and cousins, many friends and co-workers.

Elizabeth loved her family fiercely and devotedly. She was a very loving and caring person, who would help anyone and looked after everyone. She was truly loved by many.

Services began with a Rosary held at San Clemente Catholic Church in Los Lunas on Wednesday, Oct. 14. Mass and Christian Burial to follow at 10 a.m., Thursday, Oct. 15.

Lorina Garley Tafoya

1931-2020

Lorina Garley Tafoya, age 89, a resident of Los Lunas, and later moved to Tomé, passed away peacefully on Oct. 11, 2020.

She was born in Peralta, and was a member of San Clemente Parish in Los Lunas. Lorina retired from the Los Lunas Hospital and Training School.

She is preceded in death by her husband, John P. Tafoya; daughter, Eileen Reed; parents, Estanislado and Jenny Carabajal Garley; and brother, Chrissy Garley.

Lorina is survived by her sons, Raymond, Paul, John, Michael (Debbie), Leroy (Sandy) and Stanley (Angela); sister, Clarita Garley Ely; sister-in-law, Celina Garley; and special granddaughter and caregiver, Jennifer Tafoya Gonzales (Jimmy). She was also blessed with many loving grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews and friends.

The family would like to thank the Ambercare Hospice team and the many loving caregivers throughout the years who cared for Lorina.
