1937-2022

Rita Maria Chavez, age 85, a resident of Albuquerque, and a former resident of Belen, passed away on Nov. 17, 2022.

She was a member of Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church.

A visitation will be held at 9 a.m., Thursday, Dec. 8, at Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church, followed by a Rosary to be recited at 10 a.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m., with an interment to follow at Our Lady of Belen Memorial Gardens.

Rita is preceded in death by her parents, Jake and Antonia Martinez; and her brother, Rick Martinez.

She is survived by her loving husband, Robert Chavez; sons, Bob, Chris (Twila) and Joseph Chavez; daughter, Kathy Ulibarri (Andrew); grandchildren, Valerie Davis (Andrew), Jessica Morrison (David), Felicia Monson (Sheldon), Melissa Shirah (John), Celina Chavez, and Isaac, Liliana, Simon and Alexis Ulibarri; great-grandchildren, Jacob Chavez, Noah Marquez, Myla and James Shirah, Lincoln and Luna Monson, Abigail and Sofia Morrison, and Finau Reiher Jr.

Rita was a very happy, loving, and hard-working women, and most of all, incredibly strong. She loved life, loved to bake, crochet, read, and loved her grandkids and great-grandkids to pieces.

Pallbearers will be Bob, Chris, Joseph, Gilbert, Fred, and Jacob Chavez, Noah Marquez and Andrew Ulibarri.
