Lourdes Erlinda Lopez

Lourdes Erlinda Lopez, age 80, a resident of Tomé, passed away on Saturday, April 2, 2022.

She was born in Tomé and grew up in El Cerro. Lourdes was a faithful member of Gods Church on the Move in Los Chavez. She was a loving sister, mom, grandma and friend.

Lourdes had so much love to offer. She had this aura about her that people loved. Lourdes sure was loved by so many. She was exceptionally kind and generous. Giving gifts to her family and friends made her the happiest.

Lourdes retired from the Los Lunas Hospital and Training School, and thereafter took an interest in drawing, painting, going to the casinos and taking yearly trips to Laughlin, Nev. She especially loved singing and dancing to her New Mexican Spanish music.

Most of all, Lourdes had the greatest love for her family. Until the last of her days, she always had all six of her daughters by her side. A special thank you to our sister-in-law, Julie Garcia, and family friend, Carissa, for helping to take care of our mother; you two are greatly appreciated. Lourdes’s loving family will miss her forever!

She is preceded in death by her birth parents, Antonio and Lupita Chavira; adopted parents, Jose Maria and Carlota Chavira; daughter, Valerie; husband, Ralph Lopez; grandson, Vincent Lopez; sisters, Frances Villegas, Ann Miller and Nora Lyddon; brothers, Freddy and George Chavira; son-in-law, Jason Lucero; and her very special friend, Pete Chavez.

Lourdes is survived by her children, Rose Aguirre (Art), Carol Garcia (James), Lupita Garcia (Julie), Betty Lou Lucero, and Peggy Sue Salazar (Carlos); stepchildren, Daniel Salazar, Wanda Perez (Oscar), and Mark Salazar (Beverly); one sister, Ramona Cohen; 22 grandkids, 29 great-grandkids, four great-great grandkids and many nephews and nieces.

A public viewing will be held at 9:30 a.m., Tuesday, April 12, at Calvary Chapel Rio Grande Valley, with a funeral service at 10 a.m. Interment will follow at Tomé Catholic Cemetery. A reception will be held at Calvary Chapel Rio Grande Valley after services.

Pallbearers will be Joe Garcia, Jeffrey Salazar, Michael Garcia, Gabriel Gallegos, Joshua Martinez, Isaac Maya, Isaiah Maya and Vincent Jaramillo. Honorary pallbearers will be Kyle Garcia and Dominic Garcia.
